John, Thank you for your thorough explination of the various opinions on the
origins of trop. I am especially interested in the information located at Huc
in Cincinnatti. Is any of this available to the public? Has anyone traced the
development of different minchagim of different synagogues or communities and
the effort to "codify" trop charts in the 20th century. What is similar, what
is different? How did one system of trop become adopted by HUC vs. JTS vs. the
world? Here in Rochester it seems that every synagogue has it's own variation.

also is there any reason why the Kadma, which introduces the first Haftarah
blessing, is so frequently sung as a pashta? just curious.
And... are there other chat places/listserves that people converse only about
chanting, and trop issues? thanks
