I just got back to check my e-mail account, and I received a number of
responses about my request for campy-type services in the Baltimore/DC area
(THANKS!!!). I also received a number of e-mails from people who wanted to
know what responses I got! So, I am posting a list of the responses that I
received. I know that this is standard procedure on a number of other
listservers, so hopefully, no one will mind. Thanks again for all of the
responses, and I will definitely try them out!
Jonathan
PS..for the person who asked if I teach or sing in the area, I teach, but I
teach computer science, not music. I don't have musical training, I just
have a lot of great experiences with camp and songleaders. I play the guitar
for relaxation, and when family and friends are around, and I would like to
do songleading some day. I probably need some more practice first!

THE FOLLOWING IS A SHAMELESS PLUG FOR RECONSTRUCTIONIST CONGREGATION BEIT
TIKVAH of Baltimore:
Our cantor (lay), Linda Baer is a composer & folksinger.
Our Rabbi, Liz Bolton, is a founder of the Apichorus at the
Reconstructionist
Rabbinical College. She started out to become an Opera singer.
Past President Harry London was the cantor at Beth Am before he retired due
to health problems.
Past President Ray Wachs plays clarinet in a Klezmer band.
Past Sunday School Principal Diane Wachs is singer in the Klezmer band
Past President Judy Jacobson's husband, Bob, doesn't come very often
(because services aren't his thing) but when he does, he brings his sax.
Lots of other folks like to sing (some on key, others sharp/flat/between the
cracks).

Here at Baltimore Hebrew we have a service like that on the first Friday
of every month. I play the guitar - it's all NFTY/Youth music, there is
a story instead of a sermon and it's a lot more "freilich" in general.
Check us out!
Cantor Judi Rowland
---------------
don't know of any truly "camp style" services, but, Temple Beth El in
Alexandria has a family service on the first Friday of each month that
uses the prayer melodies and some songs that I think you are referring
to. However, it can be geered to a younger crowd at times and we do
have time limitations. I began singing for this service in 1977 and now
alternate the shabbats with the cantor. During a "guitar" bar or bat
mitzvah service on a Shabbat morning (which is chosen by the b/m
family), as opposed to a traditional service, the cantor will try to put
in some good songs here and there.
I would like to know of any services people have responded to you with
also.
Do you teach or sing in the area?
Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Someone also mentioned something about David Shnayer's services in the DC
area.
