[HANASHIR:5023] RE: Forever Young

Regarding the varying responses to "Forever Young" - a while ago two parents
sang it to their daughter at her bat-mizvah, and it was a resounding
success. I agree that the message is not youth at all costs, but to remain
young at heart, and in outlook - maybe to be open to new things at all
times, which is sometimes seen as a prerogative of the young!
Yours ( a young-at-heart post-50!)

Subject: [HANASHIR:5022] Forever Young

I sang Forever Young at a Bat Mitzvah Party last year and people seemed to
really appreciate it. I don't think the sentiment of the chorus Forever
Young means that we should not grow. It's more about a "strong
foundation" and a "joyful heart." Staying young at heart to me means
never losing a sense of awe, wonder and enthusiasm. As for young meaning
"being the center of the universe" well yes at age 5 but age 13 is pretty
young as well and this is when we celebrate the combination of adult
consiousness with youthful exuberance. At least at that age one can be
aware of how self centered we can be.

May you stay forever young (at heart),
