Ellen and Peter -It sounds wonderful. Good for you that you started what 
should hopefully happen in many communities. Several years ago, I arranged 
one in Montreal for Linda Hirschhorn who was an artist-in-residence at the 
Reconstructionist shul I belong to. They were not able to manage a Saturday 
evening event so I found a wonderful family who lived in Leonard Cohen's 
family house - and they offered their 'music room"  - it was an event that 
drew about 100 people - through fliers and word-of-mouth (pre-e-mail) and we 
all shared the evening. I hosted it and invited colleagues from the synagogue 
to do back-up. The shul still talks about it -
Linda was able to sell recordings that the Shabbat event did not allow for 
and it was great to have everyone create the informal event. I know many 
artists not in the Jewish community who constantly do house concertts - for 
one - artist plays, or readings as well as music.
