Dear list, Forgive me for posting a non-quite-Jewish music topic, but I'd like to share with you a historical piece of news for the Argentinians that has inevitable Jewish echoes. Yesterday, on the 27th anniversary of the Argentinian Military coup, which led to a period of complete cancellation of the basic human rights, Jews featuring particularly high among the dozens of thousands of victims, president Kirchner became the first president to recognise and apologise for the official silence about the "dirty war". The ESMA - the largest South American concentration camp, which will now become the Museum of Memory - was the chosen venue of this moment painfully awaited for 20 years by individuals and organisations such as the Madres y Abuelas de Plaza de Mayo (claiming for their children and grandchildren who were "disappeared" during this period). It is poignant to compare songs and literature that emerged during and about this period to those of the Holocaust. For example, there's an interesting article by Santiago Kovadloff in the Encyclopaedia Judaica: Latin America 1970-1980.
