For anyone in the Chicagoland area, here's a great opportunity to hear the
music of Kurt Weill performed by 5 very talented singers, and
staged/choreographed by yours truly.
Weill not only wrote 3 Penny Opera (with Brecht) and the well known Mack the
Knife, but also, after moving to America at the onset of WWII, some beautiful
songs for musical theater, including September Song and Speak Low (When You
Speak Love). The full range of Weill's adventurous musical styles and social
conscience will be evident. I've staged the first part- the German period, in
Expressionist style, and the second, American part, with more than a nod to
Broadway.
The show opens on Friday, March 19, and runs Fridays & Saturdays at 8 and
Sundays at 7 thru April 25. The location is the historic No Exit Cafe at 6970
N. Glenwood Ave, in Rogers Park. Free parking available at the Trilogy lot at
Estes and Glenwood.
Tickets are $12, food and drink will be available (seating is at tables). Call
773-743-3355 for info or reservations.
Hope to see some of you there!

p.s. Got to work with the very talented Yoel Ben-Simhon and Sultana Trio last
night, in a joint concert with Maxwell Street. If you're not familiar with his
music, definately check him out. Traditional and original tunes with a juicy
middle eastern sound on oud, guitar, qanun and drums. The Kfar site has more
info, and he's performing tonight at the Sephardic Congregation.
