RE: Rabbenu Tam

Batya asked:

FWIW, the liner (or really cover) notes for the LP NOAH [on the disc, "Noach"]
NACHBUSH'S GEMS OF YIDDISH POETRY AND FOLKLORE, where this
song is entitled "Die Goldene Pave", it is referred to as a "Poetic folk song
revolving about the great Rabbenu Tam."

It may perhaps enlighten that, in her notes to this song in the WC's MIR TROGN
A GEZANG, Chana Mlotek writes,

"Who wrote the song? [? Not sure what's meant, as she attributes it, of course,
to Itsik Manger] A tailor lad wrote the song to honor Rabbi Tam, but during the
Sabbath some prankster laughingly inserted his own lines in perfect rhyme
instead."

Hope that helps,

Robert Cohen
