Thanks as always to Roger for his notes about yesterday's event.
Regarding audience turnout: Jerry Alperstein and his Jewish War Veterans post
did a fantastic job publicizing the event. They sent out press releases to
the media and notices to every synagogue south of 30th street in Manhattan.
There was good publicity within the Town and Village Synagogue community as
well. As you know, we did an Internet posting. And it didn't hurt that the
event was free.
Good publicity really works.
One clarification: in an attempt to make our performances accessible to
Yiddish speakers and non-Yiddish speakers alike, we *always* translate the
lyrics
of the songs that we present. We try to do this in an artistic way... for
example, interspersing Yiddish and English lines, incorporating the translation
in the arrangement, etc.
Maybe we were successful enough at doing this yesterday that Roger didn't
notice that we were translating ;-)
