Nigun Question

Does anyone know anything about the background of the minor-mode nigun that 
is sung to the syllable "heida-heida" and has a clap in the middle?  Heida 
heida hei-didy dy-da...
It was the "theme nign" at the Jewish Recon Cong in Evanston for many years, 
but I have no idea where it's from before then...
