Hi all!
I've recently assumed co-curatorial duties with David Krakauer to keep the
5-year old Tonic Sunday Klezmer Brunch series going on the Lower East Side
in Manhattan every week. We're going to work to increase the profile of
the series, and increase the number of regular attendees. And we're trying
get the shows booked farther in advance so we can get more publicity out.
On that note:
November 2 and November 30
are still free. (along with a number of dates farther in the future)
Who wants to play?
Please email me (jeffrey(dot)perlman (at) aya(dot)yale(dot)edu) and David
(dkrakman (at) earthlink(dot)net) ASAP if you're interested.
It is a great opportunity for young bands to play in a well known NYC club
and for more established musicians to try new stuff out in front of a
receptive audience. Plus Tonic is steeped in Jewish tradition - the space
used to be a Kosher winery...
The current deal is that there are two sets, one at 1:30pm and one at 3pm,
tickets cost $10 for one set or $15 for both, and the band gets 65% of the
door. Therefore, the more people you bring in, the more money you
make. We've seen crowds as big as 100 people when the band succeeds in
getting the word out...
If you have any suggestions for publicizing the brunches, have a date that
you want to play, or any other suggestions, please let me know. I'd love
to hear from you.
