klezmorim and lautari

Dear Michel Borzykowski,

As far as I know Miserlou is a Greek/Jewish song,
so not very much related to gypsies.

Perhaps -from the reversed side - the next information :

There is a tune Honga Ciganesti,

another tune is "Dos Tsigayner"
performed in 1939 by Al Glaser¹s Bucovinaer Kapelle
reissued on Global Village C 105 track #B7
and in 1991 as Graovsko-Dos Tsigayner by Salomon Klezmorim
on Syncoop 136 #10 (First Klez)

aka Tsiganeshti
reissued in 2001 by the Dutch band Ot Azoj on Oreade ORW 60612 # 2
I have also a recent gypsy - recording on a obscure label.

See also the remarks of Zev Feldman about this subject in his interview with
Stacy Phillips in Mel Bay's Klezmer Collection

The "Johnny is the boy for me" - theme can be found as second part of Joseph
Moskowitz's 1953 - Doina (Rounder 1126)
also by the band Bratsch (1999?)
and the song "Drey Dreydele" on Di Naye Kapelye - Orient RIEN CD 37 is sure
related.

Another well-known Gypsy tune is Bessarabyanka
which can be found on Klezmorim's Streets of Gold (Arhoolie 3011, 1978)
or Di Goyim (Syncoop CD 131, 1991)

Greetings
Cor van Sliedregt
