Re: [Sarba] Maracine

Hankus,

This may have zero relevance to your query (although the Maracine in
question could conceivable be this location), but prowling on the web, I
found a December 1947 reference to a temple located in Bucharest on Banu
Maracine Street:

From:
http://www.itcnet.ro/history/archive/mi1997/current12/mi26.htm
<<
* Uniunea Comunitatilor Israelite Spaniole din România si Comunitatea din
Bucuresti sarbatoresc crearea statului Israel printr-o adunare la templul
din str. Banu Maracine. Iau cuvântul: sef rabin, dr. Al. Safran, av. Misu
Benvenisti, presedintele executivei sioniste din România, Raphael Halfon si
Marcu Presente, presedintii Uniunii si, respectiv, cumunitatii.
>>

This translates roughly as follows:
" The Spanish-Israelite Communities Union of Romania and the Bucharest
Community celebrate the creation of the State of Israel through a gathering
at the temple on Banu Maracine Street. Speaking are: Dr. Al[exandru?]
Safran, Chief Rabbi; lawyer Misu Benvenisti, president of the Zionist
executive of Romania; [and] Raphael Halfon and Marcu Presente, presidents of
the Union and of the Community, respectively."

BTW, I don't believe there is a shul at that address in Bucharest any more.
