Tango world wide and North African music web site

Hi everyone,

Concerning the "Jewish tango" thread, I'd like to add some observations/links
concerning tango and it's international popularity. Our Eastern neighbours (I'm
Swedish) the Finns have a longstanding love affair with tango music and
dance-to the point where tango is more or less considered their national
pastime!;-). Here's are a few interesting URLs which give lots of interesting
info on the northern "acculturation" of Argentinian tango:

Tango was also popular in Greece in the thirties and forties and many
"European" (as opposed to "a la turca") composers adapted foreign tango tunes
or wrote their own. According to Kostas Mylonas who has written a history of
European style Greek popular music, the Argentinian maestro Eduardo Bianco
frequently visited Greece with his orchestra in the late thirties, and even
recorded songs specifically aimed at the Greek market. Even today,
wedding/tavern bands will include a few tango tunes in their program for the
elderly patrons, who often know how to dance a mean tango!

And finally, an interesting link on tango worldwide:

Just to give this post some Jewish music content, I'll add a web site with
Jewish music from Morocco and Tunisia, which might be useful for Fortuna:

All the best, Eva
