A RARE TREAT!
Sunday, October 27th, at 200 PM, there will be a concert of Yiddish
singers of various styles at the Eldridge St. Synagogue, on the Lower
East Side in Manhattan (12 Eldridge st). The featured singers will be
TOYVE BIRNBAUM, who performed as a badkhn in his youth in Poland and
then moved into Yiddish vaudeville; HERSH RIKELMAN, from
Mogilov-Podolsk (Molef in yiddish) a wedding and party entertainer
from the Ukraine, who sings a post-war Soviet repertory and
accompanies himself on the accordion; JOSH WALETZKY, a wonderful
performer of older Yiddish songs as well as a leading composer of new
Yiddish songs. admission 10$, senior and students $8.
CAROL FREEMAN will give a short introduction to the world of
traditional yiddish singing.
ITZIK GOTTESMAN will moderate.
