musical happenings at Boston's Workmen's Circle



1. Josh Waletzky performs a solo concert 11/16 (Sat.) 8 p.m. at the WC's coffeehouse. Will post more details when available.

2. Multigenerational Yiddish communicty chorus "a besere velt" (a better world) - open rehearsals Oct. 5 and 19 3:30 - 5:30. Good way to try them out and see if you want to joing them.
This is a very sprited, excellent group, lead by Lisa Gallitan. Last year they gave a well-received multi-media concert re. the Warsaw Ghetto uprising at the Jewish Theater of New England; playing the concert witht the chorus as well were Hankus Netsky, Jim Guttman, Betty Silberman (of Klezmer Conservatory Band and Shirim fame).

3. Yiddish sing: 4th Thursday of each month (in Nov. & Dec., 3rd Thurs.) 7:30-9 p.m. 1762 Beacon St., Brookline. Informal, you don't have to know Yiddish. Free.

4. Klezmer jams: 1st Sun. of each month starting 10/6, (4-6 p.m., in November onwards, from 6-8). Suggested donation $5-$10. All levels welcome. 1762 Beacon St., Brookline

5. Beginning, Intermediate and Advanced level Yiddish language courses taught by competent and inspiring teachers (I've studied with all 3, so I know) on Monday evenings starting 9/23 - 7:30-9 p.m. 12 weeks. $170 members, $195 non.

6. There is a commenoration of the 50th yortzayt (death anniversary) of the murdered Yiddish writers (from ex-USSR, 1952) Sun 10/6 7 p.m. at 1762 Beacon St., Brookline. For more information call 617-566-6281. Readings and music. Free.

7. Yiddish conversation group (all levels) meets at a Somerville home: 617-625-8689 the 2nd Thursday of each month 8-10 p.m. 617-625-8689. Free.
