hi, following up on Helen's brief and sensible remark, as a medievalist
(long before being associated with Sephardic music), I've worked on
music for various Passion Play productions: the appropriate music is
medieval music, and neither Jews nor Muslims committed their music to
score in the Middle Ages (yes, yes, I know, except Obadiah haGer), so
that leaves medieval Christian music.
But if as a gesture of goodwill someone ever wanted to include some
Jewish music (the old Folkways recording of Yemenite women's singing
comes to mind as a possibility or excerpts from the Inédit recording of
Jewish liturgical singing from various cultures) and include a note
about goodwill in the programme notes, that could always be seen as
positive, if not musicologically accurate.
