Maxwell Street Klezmer Band CD Release Party

News Release Contact: Lori Lippitz (847) 675-4800

For release June 5, 2002

Chicago, IL The Maxwell Street Klezmer Band will be at Barnes & Noble Book
Store in Old Orchard Shopping Center, Skokie, Illinois, on Thursday, June 20,
at 7:30 PM. The band will be releasing its fourth CD, titled Old Roots, New
World, on the Shanachie label.

The group will be autographing the new CD during a free concert until 9:30
PM, featuring music from the album.

In recommending the album, Theodore Bikel, folk singer and star of Fiddler on
the
Roof, comments, "These are fine musicians. They not only play well, but they
care about the music. And when they care--I care."

Old Roots, New World is an evocative collection of traditional klezmer music
and new compositions. It features a classical piece, Klezmer Rhapsody, which
was written
for the band's violinist, Alex Koffman, by Chicago composer Ilya Levinson.
Several
theater songs by Yiddish comedienne Molly Picon spice this potpourri of
Yiddish music.
