hello folks... i'm trying to do a project on comic strip and comic book art,
and i'm trying to find a book or library that might have a decent collection of
"Abie The Agent" (Herschfield) strips. Can anyone clue me in?
for those who don't know, "abie" was the first comic strip of few to feature a
jewish protagonist, and the first comic strip ever to portray an ethnic group
in a positive way (some obvious negative ethnic strips were katzenjammer kids,
barney google, etc.) the few examples i've seen are really good
speaking of comics, i hope everyone here has been following the exploits of Ben
Katchor... he has three "julius knipl" collections out now, and they're all
amazing... now he's doing a strip called "hotel and farm" that's in the english
"forward"... everyone needs to check out this guy. start a conversation with
henry sapoznik about ben katchor... go ahead, i dare you.
while i'm off-topic: everyone must listen to moxy fruvious, snoop doggy dogg,
and the asylum street spankers. in that order.
