ANNOUNCING THE PUBLICATION OF

THE UNDYING FLAME
Ballads and Songs of the Holocaust

                    JERRY SILVERMAN

110 songs in Yiddish, German, Hebrew, Spanish, French, Dutch, Italian,
Serbo-Croatian, Ladino, Greek, Norwegian, Czech, Polish, Russian, Hungarian
and English

    With extensive historical notes, illustrations,
            piano arrangements, guitar chords
            and singable English translations

A CD OF 14 SONGS FROM THE BOOK IS INCLUDED

This is a major collection of Holocaust music. Most of the songs have never

appeared in print before. Over 300 pages.

The book is divided into three main sections:

    1. The Gathering Storm: 1933-1939
    2. Shoah: 1940 - 1945
    3. Kaddish: A Post-War Retrospective

The collection opens with a lengthy introduction which places the songs
in their historical perspective. In addition, each of the songs is preceded
by descriptive material - sometimes on a personal level supplied by
survivors.

Section One contains material from pre-war German concentration camps,
anti-Nazi songs (particularly as related to the "Jewish question" in
Germany) and other anti-Fascist songs, such as those arising from the
Spanish Civil War.

Section Two is made up of songs inspired by the terrible events of the
"Final Solution" - including songs of the camps, ghettos and resistance
across Europe.

Section Three consists of post-war and contemporary songs reflecting on the
Holocaust, by such composers as Pete Seeger, Tom Paxton, Janis Ian, Si Kahn,

as well as European composers.
Contact Jerry Silverman (sawmillmus (at) aol(dot)com or 914 478 2651) for
information

about his concert/lecture program based songs and readings from "The Undying

Flame."
