Clarinet break amidst a freylach

I am inquiring regarding the tradition(?) of a sudden clarinet cadenza
followed by a slow hora, which interrupts a freylach.
I have heard examples of this is the Fiddler on the Roof wedding music
(the bottle dance), and in the wedding scene of the Chosen (who was
that great bearded band, anyway?), but I have never heard an example of
this on the historical recordings. However, this could be due to the
time limitations for each track. Is this really a tradition, or merely a
figment of Broadway/Hollywood? Does this tradition have a name? (Oy,
there's a name for everything, isn't there?)
Can someone point me to recordings that have examples of this kind of
clarinet break?
Thanks
Bob Herman
