A press release touts an upcoming performance by a group called "Barrage" as
follows:
"This hot young Canadian troupe of seven violinists, two percussionists,
guitarist, bass and keyboard players, perform a mix of original world beat
music with infectious energy..... combines jazz, swing, Celtic roots, rock,
klezmer, country, calypso and every musical style in between to create an
eclectic and electrifying assault on the senses. Incorporate athletic
movements and choreography with a state of the art rock n' roll light show
and the result is a thrilling, multi-sensory experience that has been dubbed
'extreme violin.'
"THe show takes a new-fashioned look at musical traditions in an exciting,
innovative theatrical evening ... As a group, these young performers amaze
with their unstoppable vivacity; individually, they cite influences from
Mozart to Charlie Daniels!"
Has anyone ever actually seen or heard (or even heard of?) this group?
Apparently they were on PBS-TV a year ago.
Of course, this sounds so execrable I'm almost tempted to go hear it.
