For $69, assuming you have a PC of modern speed and disk, Cool Edit 2000
from Syntrillium has the ability to manipulate pitch and speed independantly
without needing an advanced degree in the old days of doing it
by hand with linear predictive coding.
I've been able to half speed without changing pitch for transcribing,
I've been able to stretch a one measure recorded tsimbl pattern (thanks Pete)
to fit neatly into a 2 second space so I can use timing marks to determine
where in a 2/4 measure the strikes are, I've been able to take a recording
in E and change it to D without dragging so I can play along.
I love general purpose hardware.
