Blood Drive Location: Boston Area

Chevrei --

By now, we have all seen and heard about the horrific events of today.
While there names are too numerous to mention here, our thoughts and prayers
go out to the victims in New York City, Washington, DC, and western
Pennsylvania and to their families as well. If you are Shabbat services
this Friday evening, please be sure to say Kaddish for the thousands of
victims and Mi Shebeirach for the many more who are in need of both
physical and spiritual healing during these trying times.

So the question is "Mah la'asot? -- What do we do?" With all the injuries
that have occurred, the most critical needs right now are for blood
donations. It's a simple process -- donating blood takes a little more than
an hour and includes registration, a brief medical history, and having your
pulse, temperature, blood pressure, and hemoglobin checked. The actual
donation only takes about 10 minutes and is relatively painless. To see what
it feels like, pinch your arm just above the elbow. To be an eligible
donor, you must be 17 years or older, weigh at least 110 pounds, and be in
general good health.

I have assembled a short list of places in the Boston area that offer blood
donation services which are listed below. For more information and
additional locations in your community, please go to www.redcross.org or
call the national Red Cross (1-800-HELP-NOW).

"Kol ha-m'abeid nefesh achat k'ilu ibeid olam; kol ha-m'kayem nefesh achat
k'ilu kiyeim olam. -- If you destroy a single life, then you destroy a
world; but if you save that precious life then you have saved a world." I
urge all of you to perform a mitzvah, an act of "tikkun olam" -- repairing
the world -- please donate blood.

Yihiyeh tov -- things will get better . . .

B'shalom,
