Shelley, who is still very much alive, is a very witty man. On being spotted
playing in the St. Patrick's day parade by a Chasidic kid who recognized him
from the Williamsburg bandstands, Shelly said in response to the kid's
puzzled "What are you doing Here?" "From one God you can't make a living."
Shelly is, like Marty Bass, an unsung hero of Jewish Music. He was the lead
trumpeter on the early Neginah Albums, especially the first wedding album,
which was an excellent snapshot of Chasidic wedding music circa 1970. On a
gig with him once, he responded to the query, "can you stay for the
overtime?" "I would do it for the money alone."

Long live Shelley!
