Re: Wax cylinder recordings of the An-ski expeditio



Thanks for posting this, Lorele-- a very interesting article (which I haven't
yet finished).  Of particular interest was the reference to Beregovski having
recorded ensembles.  From my readings of contemporary writers on Beregovski's
work, I've always understood that only soloists had been recorded (perhaps this
was only in reference to the earlier An-ski collections).  This is the first
I've heard that ensembles were also documented.

Quoted from the article:
"The majority of records of 1931-1935 were made in "Kyiv"... Of particular
interest are phonorecords with examples of klezmer music registered from an
ensemble of performers - instrumentalists (clarinet/flute, violin, alto) and
from the separate musicians in Kyiv in 1935 (No. 831-846) as well."
