Re: chairs



I wonder if the custom of seating the bride on a fancy throne was regional
or specific to particular shtetls.  In the Yizkor books I find examples of
both fancy chairs and plain old stools:

bride had been seated on a stool in the hall while the Dinovitzer badchan,
Yisroel-kel, sang to the bride and it was heart-rending.  He said mussar
(ethical exhortations) in rhyme.

The bridal chair was white velvet and there was always the master of
ceremonies (badchun) with his jokes, rhymes, and song
