Leonard Bernstein, of course, composed the "Chichester Psalms" on commission
from an English church--and then made a point of setting the *Hebrew* texts
of four Psalms to music.
This is not offered at all by way of criticism of Alex's own decision; just
a footnote.
And by way of a footnote _to_ the footnote: (Non-Jew) Schubert, of course,
set a Psalm in Hebrew to music as well.
All this stuff re the appropriation by Jews for J. of Jewish music is new to
me--and quite distressing.
