About the artists

Oi-Va-Voi

'beautiful and itchy' (The Guardian)
'We've heard US revivalists the Klezmatics - but Oi-Va-Voi give things their own UK style cross-cultural slant.' (FROOTS)

Inspired by intense research in Eastern Europe and the Middle East, Oi-Va-Voi play what can only be defined as the eclectic sound of ethnic London, with Klezmer, flamenco and North African Sephardi music meeting funk, breakbeats and DJ culture head on.
Oi-Va-Voi represent the cutting edge of new Jewish music, and are the subject of a recent international documentary film - UK Today - showcasing the best of contemporary British culture. They have recorded original music for film, theatre and the South Bank Show and have performed live in 2000 at such diverse venues as the Knitting Factory, New York, Antwerp International Festival of Jewish Music, Belgium and Glastonbury, UK.
Catch them live and you will see why they have a reputation as "the leading exponents of the new sound" (Metro)

Ricardo Czureja Trio

Ricardo was born in Zakopane, Poland into a family of gypsy musicians. He learnt to play violin from his grandfather and gave his first public performance at the age of six. Ricardo trained at the Teater Jewish Theatre in Warsaw and led an ensemble of 20 gypsy musicians, singers and dancers.
He now performs Slovak, Russian, Romanian, Hungarian and gypsy repertoire and virtuoso improvisations on these themes.

Kharkov Klezmer Band

Five young Jewish musicians awaken the young people of Kharkov to the rich cultural heritage of Eastern European Jewry. The band took part in the First Ukrainian KlezFest in 2000 and have performed in Hungary and Austria.
They are appearing in London as part of the London Klezfest, generously supported by the Jewish Music Institute.

MoMo

MoMo succeed in fusing deep traditional music drawn from Gnawa and Berber traditions with trance, techno and even deep house as they play over live DJ mixed beats.
Interspersed with the seductive sounds of the mondo and bass sintir atop matchless intuitive and rhythm hard percussion, their mesmeric vocals bring rap and the blues to the sounds of Morocco.
MoMo?s track record includes Robert Plant, WOMAD, Barbican Roots & Shoots Festival, Portobello Festival, the Shrine, Modal, TUC Respect Festival and the Orange Book Awards, worldwide broadcasting and festivals in Italy. ?Hypnotic and irresistible? (Time Out)
MoMo play as an electric band and an acoustic group Their recent Sound of the Moors project played over DJ Tabab? s fresh techno trance/dub creations and will be released later this year.
