Shpil di fidl, shpil

I am transcribing the songs from Yidl mitn Fidl (and trying to follow the
dialogue).

Shpil di fidl, shpil (especially the first phrase) reminds me of a song I
used to sing with a friend called 'Babette'. The song, not the friend. It had
the most ridiculous words but a lovely tune. We found it in a book called
something like Your Hundred Best Popular Songs. Anyone else recall this song
or know anything about it or its connection with Yidl?
