The Mloteks attribute the song to Pesakh Kaplan in their most recent songbook.  They also note the similarity of the melody to the Soviet song kegn gold fun zun.  Given the folk process, when learning the Soviet song for a program on secular Jewish music, I wondered if the ghetto song did not pick up the beautiful melody from the Soviet propaganda song.
