It's get's more confusing.

In Romania and Bulgaria, a "truba" is a tenor horn, what we call a baritone
or euphonium over here, slightly ovalish in overall shape. Close, no cigar.
Also, in the Low Countries a "tuba" is what we call here a alto or "peck"
horn, essentially a small baritone that plays in the coronet range. (Found
this out the hard way.)
Yiddish for "bass horn" maybe?
