The Women of Tim Pan Alley on Video

Though this is not specifically Jewish-Music related, I beleive this could
be of interest to many on the list.

A few months ago there was program on PBS. " Yours for a Song -The Women of
Tin Pan Alley" about the many women who composed some of the popular
standards yet are largely unknown to the general public while their male
counterparts received so much of the public acclaim.

This program was just released on Video, and have decided to add it to the
Hatikvah catalogue. Many of the composers are Jewish, and their
interaction/colaboration with such composers as Gershwin, Kern, Coleman and
others are seen in this program.

 These are just some of the composers profiled;

Dorothy Fields
Fields came from a Jewish Show business family. Her father was Lou Fields
from the famous Vaudevillian team of Webber & Fields. She was an
exceptionally gifted and successful lyricist. These are just a very small
selection of her songs:
The Way You Look Tonight, I'm In The Mood For Love, A Fine Romance. The
musicals "Sweet Charity" "Swing Time," "Annie Get Your Gun," and dozens of
other HIT songs.

Doris Fisher
"You always hurt the One you Love", "Put The Blame On Mame","Put the blame On
Mame" (performed by Sinatra & the Hi-Los)

Ann Ronnel (Anna Rosenblatt)
"Willow Weep For Me", "Who's afraid Of The Big Bad Wolf" and many movie scores

Among the other composers are Doris Tauber, Dana Suesse, and Kay Swift.
Performances included by Ella Fitzgerald with Benny Goodman, Rosemary
Clooney, Perry Como with Dorothy Fields, Betty Buckley, etc.

This is a wonderful addition to any music library and a very important era in
the history of American Popular music.

This 55 min video is available form Hatikvah for $18.98, shipping include in
the US
