Re: searching the mailing list archives

Yup. Helen you have touched upon one of the many things that drives
me crazy about the current search engine. There is no useful way to
search for the digest of a particular date, you simply have to know
it is there. And, of course, you can only get a whole day's digest,
there is no other granularity.

The trick is that all files are archived, by day, and the file name is
always YYMMDD, and always in the same place, e.g., for today

http://www.shamash.org/listarchives/jewish-music/000226

Because this list has been around since 1992, it can be extremely
tedious, and can actually crash some browsers, if you just go to

http://www.shamash.org/listarchives/jewish-music

as there are something like 17*365 files there, and that is more
lines than some browsers want to see on a page. Needless to say,
the current files are at the bottom of the list (although that may
be changed, as 00 alphabetizes before 92 or 93 or 99). Aargh.

I am working with Shamash on significant changes, one of which will
improve access to archives in a wider variety of ways. We're still
talking about changes, however, nothing is certain and no one has
started work ;-).
