Re: Any Greek Post WWII recordings in Ladino?

Joel,

I guess that Kol Salonika wouldn't count.

But "Greek-Jewish Musical Traditions: recording and notes by Amnon
Shiloah, The Hebrew University, Jerusalem" Ethnic Folkways Records FE
4205 (1978)(LP) should. Just looking at the contents I see at least a
half dozen likely candidates. I don't know whether they are recorded
by former displaced persons and I don't believe that they reflect on
that experience, but they do seem to be in Ladino.

Sorry, I've got to run.

Shabbat Shalom,
Bob

Subject: Any Greek Post WWII recordings in Ladino?

Chevre:

Please help me respond to an inquiry from the Holocaust Museum. Does
anyone
know of any songs in Ladino by (or about the experience of) Greek
Jewish
Displaced Persons post-WWII? A difficult inquiry, to be sure, but if
anyone would know this group would!

Related question: has anyone ever been able to obtain a copy of:

>Daniel Akiva, "Siniza i Fumo, in memoriam of the Jews of Salonika",
Texts by
>Avner Perez, CD. Available from the Maale Adumim Institute for the
>documentation of Judeo-Spanish and its culture, Maale Adumim, Israel.
65
NIS.

I have tried for sporadically for years, to no avail. I assume it
deals
with Holocaust themes and that at least some of the songs are in
Ladino,
but have never been able to confirm.

Yet another related note: I am told by the producer that the latest
"Ballad
of Mauthausen" CD has been released by PLÄNE RECORDS. No other details
yet
available. A quick peek at http://www.plaene-records.de/ did not
reveal any
more information.

Thanks!

Joel
