"KUM LERNT ZIKH MIT UNDZ. . . ."
A MINI-COURSE IN YIDDISH
AT BETH AM, THE PEOPLE'S TEMPLE

If you've always wanted a quick introduction to the mame-loshn, here's a
terrific
opportunity. This fall, Beth Am, the People's Temple will be offering three
classes as part of its Friday night oneg shabbat programs.

The first class, "How to Get By in Yiddish: Basic Phrases and Vocabulary" will
be
held on October 22. The following week, on October 29, Beth Am offers "Familiar
Yiddish Words and Phrases." The final class, "Yiddish Literature in
Translation," will be held on November 19.

Friday night shabbat services at Beth Am begin at 8 p.m. The oneg shabbat
follows
immediately after services.

All classes will be taught by Rebecca Margolis. Ms. Margolis is a graduate
student in the Yiddish Studies program at Columbia University. She intends to
write her dissertation on Yiddish culture in Montreal. Outside of her studies,
Ms. Margolis teaches Yiddish language and culture to both adults and children.

Beth Am, the People's Temple, is a progressive Reform congregation located at
178
Bennett Avenue (189th Street, one block west of Broadway) in upper Manhattan,
New
York City. Beth Am, which will celebrate its 50th anniversary in Spring 2000, is
one of the oldest Reform synagogues in Northern Manhattan. For more information
and directions, please call the Temple office at 212-927-2230.
