RE: origin of the Sher

Dear Reyzl,

The Lapson reference is:

Lapson, Dvora. Dances of the Jewish People. New York: Board of Jewish
Education, 1954.
A time honoured reference book with dance instructions for choreographed
versions of many of the dances
eg., Patch Tanz, Sher, Broiges Dance.

I have several other references on my web page
www.angelfire.com/ns/helenwinkler

Lapson, Gurit Kadman and Rivka Sturman along with Fred Berk are some of the
the pioneers of the Israeli folk dance movement. They often included
Eastern European influenced dances in their choreographies. Interestingly,
many Israeli dance groups are going back to these old dances which are more
rooted in Jewish culture and tradition than some of the current
disco/fusion/aerobics/jazz/Greek/Spanish/and anything else you want
influenced dances.

Helen
