1) a bisl yidishkayt carries "Klezmer, NY" for $16 + $2 shipping. We
accept phone orders (toll-free 877-YIDDISH) and accept MC/Visa. Our web
site should be up next week (will make an announcement).

2) The older recordings do tend to be scratchy, but not always. It's great
to learn from the European-born masters like Tarras and Brandwein. We
carry 4 CDs of Dave Tarras' music:
        Sapoznik's "Dave Tarras: Yiddish-American Klezmer Music 1925-56" ($16)
Tarras, Global Village, vol. 1 and vol 2 ($16 each)
Klezmer Music (with Abe Ellstein's Orchestra ($17.50)

The list of current players is quite long, and how much one enjoys each
and/or wants to learn from each depends on one's taste. The following
people come to mind (all of whose discs we stock). It's really hard to
describe peoples' playing in a word or two, and no offense is meant towards
any of the following excellent clarinetists:
Kurt Bjorling (Brave Old World, Chicago Klezmer Ensemble) (traditional
and jazzy take-offs) (albums cost from $16-$17)
Joel Rubin (solo albums, early Brave Old World) (traditional,
            clean, controlled style)($16-18)
        Glenn Dixon (2 Shirim CDs, 2 Naftule's Dream CDs each $16) -
traditional
                and experimental
Walt Maher (first Budowitz CD called "Mameloshn" - $16. Early klezmer
                style C-clarinet)
Ilene Stahl (later Klezmer Conservatory Band)- wild + traditional
Don Byron (earlier Klezmer Conservatory Band) - jazzy, wild
David Krauker - has a first album "Klezmer Madness" ($16) and played
on 2 Klezmatics albums (Rhythm & Jews and Jews with Horns -$16)
Andy Statman (traditional to jazz) (we carry 5 titles by him)
Giorda Feidman (many people think him commercial, but he does play
some klezmer and his technique is amazing)

Another route would be to get a compilation album that has a
sampling of many of the above, such as "Doyres" "Shteygers" "Klezmer
Magic", "Klezmer Music: A Marriage of Heaven & Earth"...

Next week you can browse our site for more details...
