With no disrespect to Richard intended, allow me to extend the same invitation
to anyone in the Heights-Inwood area looking for a Reform congregation to daven
by (one that is more traditional-minded than you might expect, by the way). We
are Beth Am, the People's Temple, located at 178 Bennett Avenue, one block west
of Broadway at 189th Street. Our services feature a wonderful opera-trained
cantorial soloist, Beverly Myers, and an ardent (and maybe even talented -- not
for me to say, since I'm a member) volunteer choir, performing an interesting
mix of traditional and new music. Our schedule of HH services is:
Sunday eve., Sept. 20, 7 p.m.
Monday morning, Sept. 21 9:30 a.m., children's services at 9 and 10:15 and a
free learner's service at 11:15 a.m.
Kol Nidre, 6:30 p.m. Tues. Sept. 29
Wednesday, Sept. 30, 9:30 a.m. with the same schedule of children's and
learners' service.
I wouldn't post this to the list except that I felt obliged since it's our
neighborhood also. :-)
And if anyone on the list is angry over my review of their record in Jewish
Week, this is their chance to see me in person and tell me to my face (although
that wouldn't be very yuntifdike, would it?).
Shana Tova and best wishes to all for a creative, prosperous and healthy 5759
