Invitation to Shorashim--Roots of Israeli Folkdance Weekend in NYC



Classic Israeli folk music will be featured at the
annual Shorashim--Roots of Israeli Folkdance Weekend 
in New York City  September 5 - 7, 1998

Celebrating the 50th birthday of Israel with programs honoring the
pioneers of Israeli Folkdance

Featuring workshop leaders: 

> Ayalah Goren,  Director of Ethnic Dance studies at Jerusalem's Rubin
Academy of Music & Dance

> Danny Uziel, Co-director of the Jewish Dance Division at the 92nd Street
Y and leader of the most popular Israeli dance session in New York

> Hadassah Badoch, Former principal soloist with the Inbal Yemenite Dance
Theater and Batsheva Dance Company in Israel

> Danny Pollock, Popular Israeli dance teacher and choreographer in  New
York area

Some of the central themes for this Jubilee year celebration will be:
1. Creating the national folk dance in the pre-state period 
2. Dances commemorating the struggle for independence 
3. Celebrating the rebirth of the nation through dance 
4. Post-Independence - Dance innovations by the next generation of
choreographers

Schedule of events:

Saturday Sept. 5  @ 9 pm  -- Opening night celebration and dance marathon
Sunday Sept. 6  -- Dance Workshops @ 1-6  pm; Dance Marathon @ 8 pm 
Monday Sept. 7-- Dance Workshops @ 1-6  pm; Dance Marathon @ 8 pm

Advanced registration for the complete weekend $65; $75 at the door
Workshops: $30/day     
Evening programs: $10/night
Workshops + Evening Programs: $35/day
