hi,
i found this song in the sidor belarsky songbook, and i'm hoping that
someone out there can look over my (attempt at a) translation of it....
Nit zukh mikh dort vu mirtn grinen,
Gefinst mikh dortn nit, mayn shats;
Vu lebns velkn bay mashinen,
Dortn iz mayn rue-plats.
Don't look for me there where myrtles flower (???),
You won't find me there, my treasure.
Where lives whither next to machines---
That's my resting-place.
Nit zukh vu di foygl zingen,
Gefinst mikh dortn nit, mayn shats;
A shklaf bin ikh, vu keytn klingen,
Dortn iz mayn rue-plats.
Don't search where birds sing--
You won't find me there, my treasure.
I'm a slave where chains rattle---
That's my resting place.
Nit zukh mikh vu fontanen shpritsn,
Gefinst mikh dortn nit, mayn shats.
Vu trern rinen, tsayner kritsn,
Dortn iz mayn reu-plats.
Don't look for me where fountains spray,
You won't find me there, my treasure.
Where tears trickle and teeth grind,
That's my resting place.
Un libstu mikh mit reyner libe,
To kum tsu mir, mayn guter shats,
Un heyter oyf mayn harts dos tribe,
Un makh mir zis mayn rue-plats.
If you love me with a pure heart,
Come to me, my good treasure,
And lift the ??? off of my heart,
And make sweet for me my resting-place.
