This answer is directed to Sharen Keim, who asked about Klezmer-Dixieland
fusion, and who is unreachable under the given email:
The original Dixieland Jazz Band recorded a 78rpm with the title,
"Palesteena" (Con Corad and R, Robinson) on Victor Dec. 4, 1920, which
sports a popular tune favored among Jews (hence, the name Palesteena) as
well as a Ukrainian Kolomeyka which Jews played, found sandwiched in one
of the inner voices. Harry Kandel´s Orchestra (Klezmer) tried to play a Dixie
cross-breed in "Jakie Jazz ´em Up" (Victor New York, Oct. 25, 1926) which
appears on Henry Sapoznik´s reissue by the same name. There´s more, but
those are the most obvious and earliest. Good Luck. Josh Horowitz
