Since most folk & ethnic dance in Israel involves Jewish music, the
following may be of interest to people on this list. Any other lists
that might be appropriate would be appreciated.
FOLK & ETHNIC DANCE SEMINAR IN ISRAEL
with visits to folk & ethnic groups around the country
including the 3-day Karmiel Dance Festival
JUNE 29 - JULY 16, 1995
Program: The Seminar will include meetings or dance sessions with
individuals and groups throughout the country arranged by Ayalah
Goren-Kadman. An authority on Israeli folk dance, Ayalah currently directs
ethnic dance studies at the prestigious Rubin Academy of Music and Dance
in Jerusalem. There will be a unique opportunity to obtain first-hand
knowledge about folk and ethnic dance from the best teachers and
choreographers. Evening programs will include participation in selected
folk dance sessions. A highlight of the program will be the three-day
Karmiel Dance Festival. On site visits to various ethnic communities
will allow participants to experience the traditional dances of groups
that may include Yememite, Kurdish, Georgian, Ethiopian, North African,
Indian, Bedouin/Arab, Druze and Cherkassian, among others.
Eligibility: Participation in the Seminar is open primarily to a select
number of individuals who already have some knowledge of folk and ethnic dance.
Priorty is given to dance teachers and leaders who wish to enrich their
professional background. Others may be admitted on a space available basis.
Cost: $2296 (subject to change). This low introductory rate includes airfare
(round trip NY-Israel via El Al), Hotels & breakfast (Kashrut observed),
transfer from airport, trips around the country and many entrance fees.
