The Cantors Institute Alumni Association is organizing a Choral
Festival and a Yom Iyun on April second and third. The events will take
place at the Jewish Theological Seminary, 3080 Broadway, in Manhattan.
On Sunday April 2nd, we will have workshops, communal singing and
choral performances, featuring choirs from all over the US. Among the
many scholars running the workshops are Dr. Joshua Jacobson and Cantor
David Tillman.
On Monday, Dr Jacobson will teach two sessions, one on Ta'amei
haMikrah and one in rehearsal techniques and repertoire for synagogue
choirs. Dr. Menachem Shmelzer will teach a session on learning and
preparing a text and Cantor Brian Mayer will teach a session on hilchot
haShats.
Dr. Joshua Jacobson is director and founder of the Zamir Chorale
of Boston and he heads the music department at Northeast University in
Boston. Dr. Menachem Shmelzer is the provost at the Jewish Theological
Seminary, and Cantor Mayer is a Cantor in Providence,RI, and a faculty at
the Jewish Theological Seminary.
No registration is required for the program on Monday, but the
workshops and concert on Sunday do. Please contact me for more info.
