Many professional musicians use a program by Coda Music Software called
"Finale." It's extremely complex, but covers every option one needs in
writing music. For writing out simple lead sheets, it may ne too
complicated. I think Coda makes a simpler version called "Allegro."
As a conductor and arranger, I use Finale, but it took me most of a summer
to get familiar with it, and I still feel as if I'm learning it. The
program is also expensive ($300 to $700), but well worth the price if
that's what you do for a living. The results look like published music.
Hope this helps.
