Shanachie Entertainment and Living Traditions are proud to announce the
release of two new CDs of Jewish music produced by Grammy award
producer/performer Henry Sapoznik.
"Mysteries of the Sabbath: Classic Cantorial Recordings 1907-1947" (Yazoo
7002) is an anthology of 16 rare examples of classic khazones by some of the
greatest voices of this century including Gershon Sirota, Pierre Pinchik,
Leib Glantz, Yoselle Rosenblatt, plus others. The original discs have been
carefully remastered using cutting edge digital technology. The CD comes with
a 36 page booklet on the history of recording khazones, bios,
photos,translations and critiques on the performances.
"On the Air" (Shanachie 67005) by the pioneering Yiddish klezmer group,
Kapelye, celebrates a forgotten moment in Jewish-American history: the rise
of Yiddish-American radio. Mixing new performances rare historic radio
broadcasts and sound effects, "On the Air" provides the listener with a
breathtaking array of styles of Jewish music including, traditional Yiddish
dance tunes, singing commervcials, a cappella ballads, swing influenced
klezmer tunes, Lady Cantors and songs honoring pioneering Jewish aviators.
The CD is accompanied by a 24 page booklet containing a history of Jewish
radio plus lyrics and graphics.
The recordings were produced by Henry Sapoznik, one of the architects of the
worldwide reinterst in klezmer music, founder of "Kapelye" and the
internationally acclaimed event "KlezKamp". He is a Grammy award nominated
producer and performer for his 1990 recording "Partisans of Vilna: Songs of
World War II Jewish Resistance" (Flying Fish), the first Yiddish record ever
nominated.
