KlezKamp '94



Living Traditions, Inc. is proud to announce the tenth annual Yiddish
Folkarts Program/KlezKamp which will be held this December 25-30 at the
Paramount Hotel in Parksville, New York.

Since 1985 KlezKamp has presented the finest teachers and performers in
the Yiddish world to over 3,000 participants of all ages from around the
globe. Four full days of classes in Yiddish and English are presented in
klezmer music, folk theater and art song, dance, language arts and etymology,
theater, calligraphy, papercutting, history, film, literature, culinary
arts and folklore not to mention a full children's and teen's program (ages
2-17) including our first KlezKamp Youth Orchestra
This year our staff of over 30 includes members of the klezmer bands Kapelye,
the Klezmatics and Brave Old World, singer Adrienne
Cooper, linguist Dr. Mordechai Schaechter, folklorist Barbara
Kirshenblatt-Gimblett, writers Irena Klepfisz and Michael Wex, musician
Binyumen Schaechter, music historian
Mark Kligman, film and photo historian Roberta Newman, calligrapher Peggy
Davis, foodways folklorist Devorah Sperling, cartoonist Ben Katchor,
writer/radio commentator Daniel Pinkwater and international Yiddish
theater star Lillian Lux, who will be the recipient of our 1994 Lifetime
Acheivement Award.

After classes participants are offered a wide array of evening programs
including lectures, films, dancing to live bands, jam sessions, a
late-night cabaret and more. To kick off this year's new sponsorship of
KlezKamp, Living Traditions is hosting a gala concert at New York's
Symphony Space on Sunday October 30 at 2:00 P.M. "KlezmeRama" will aid
our Scholarship Fund  and will feature performances by many of KlezKamp's
staff members including the bands Kapelye and the Klezmatics, Lillian
Lux, Sid Beckerman, Herb Gardner, Irena Klepfisz, Michael Wex, Judith
Sloan, Jeff Warschauer, Ben Schaechter and more! Tickets are $20. For
