Yes, I agree that this is a bit of a Pandora's box, but let's see...
Each girl and boy at my temple creates her/his own talit which she/he may
choose to wear at services and at her/his bat/bar mitzvah. Our senior rabbi
is a woman and she wears one. I wear one, too -- the one she gave me.
That's the reality. We each have different ways of feeling and doing
Jewish. If one of my choir members, male or female, chose to wear one when
singing with the choir at a service, I certainly would not prevent that
although I wouldn't require it either.
