I was going thru old e-mail, and saw this. Did anyone fill you in
on the third question yet? I have taught this subject repeatedly
at the CAJE conferences, and can probably summarize it for you.

I graduated the JTS Cantorial School, and have developed a good
knack for explaining some of our obscure traditions (musical and
otherwise). I'll be leaving for a week-long trip soon, but we can
chat about this when I return if you are still interested.

BTW, I'm sure someone told you that V'shamru is Exodus 31:16-17.
Many Siddurim have references; one of the best is the old Birnbaum
Daily Prayer Book (Hebrew Publishing Co.) if you can still find one.
