Dear Linda,
I had this malady very severely, after almost 30 years of guitar playing, my
left side went numb down to my fingers and I was in excruiciation pain in my
shoulder and neck. I went to a neurologist who prescribed physical therapy
sessions. The therapist gave me excersises to do regularly and it got rid of
the pain!! Also, icing your shoulder regularly will help a lot...and
position your guitar so that the pressure on your shoulder is minimalized by
paying attention to how you extend your arm around the neck. Alexander
techique will help you as well.....you have to be diligent about taking care
of your body, guitar playing can be hard on you! Good Luck
