[HANASHIR:4423] A lesson in using e-mail

Dear HN people,

If Goldberg posts a message to Epstein, and Epstein wants to reply to
Goldberg, Epstein does not have to call Goldberg on the phone to ask for
his e-mail address. He has two options:

1. The easier option is to click on the "Reply" button, or otherwise
indicate to the mail program that he wishes to reply.

2. The second option is to look in the heading of the e-mail. Goldberg's
e-mail address (return address) will be there. Epstein can then send a new
message to Goldberg!

However: If the message from Goldberg comes to Epstein through a LIST,
option 1 will send the message to the ENTIRE LIST, because, even though
Goldberg originated the message, it was propagated and send by and to THE
LIST.

**************** IMPORTANT IMPORTANT IMPORTANT *******************
So, if Epstein wants to respond privately to Goldberg, he looks in the
heading information of the message. Lo and behold, he sees something like
this:

Delivered-To: stampcollectors (at) philately(dot)org
From: "Abe Goldberg" <agoldberg (at) farkel(dot)com>
To: <stampcollectors (at) philately(dot)org>
Subject: [STAMPCOLLECTORS:4420] Re: Upside-down Woodrow Wilson
Date: Fri, 12 Nov 1999 07:05:39 -0500

All he has to do is copy "agoldberg (at) farkel(dot)com" into the "To" field
when he
composes his reply. It's not hard. Really.

A gut shabbes and belated rosh chodesh Kislev to all.
